About the Author
Usman T. Malik is a Pakistani-American writer and doctor whose fiction has won the Bram Stoker Award, the Crawford Award, and the British Fantasy Award. He has been nominated for the World Fantasy Award, the Million Writers Award, and twice the Nebula. His stories have been reprinted in several Year’s Best anthologies including The Best American Science Fiction & Fantasy 2019 (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), and venues such as Tor. com, The Apex Book of World SF, the US in Flux (Center for Science & Imagination at Arizona State University), and WIRED Magazine among others.
Usman’s debut collection Midnight Doorways: Fables from Pakistan was published in February 2021 by KITAB (Pvt) Ltd. Nine Pakistani artists and designers were commissioned to illustrate the stories in the book. The book has drawn praise from writers like Karen Joy Fowler, Kelly Link, Aamer Hussein, and Joe Hill among others. The book won the Crawford Award 2022 and is a finalist for the Ignyte, World Fantasy, & Locus awards.
Usman is the co-founder of The Salam Award For Imaginative Fiction, which aspires to find and nurture speculative fiction writers of Pakistani origin.
